On the night of January 2, 2000, 18-year-old Zebb Wayne Quinn finished his shift at a Walmart in Asheville, North Carolina. He was headed to look at a car with a friend — a quick errand before heading home. Zebb never made it back.

Later that night, surveillance footage captured Zebb and his co-worker leaving the parking lot in separate cars. It was the last time he was seen alive. Two weeks later, his Mazda Protegé turned up in a restaurant parking lot. Inside were eerie clues: a live puppy, a hotel key, and a lipstick-scrawled exclamation mark on the rear windshield. There was no sign of Zebb.

Zebb was shy, kind, and close with his family. His sudden disappearance shook the Asheville community. Early suspicion fell on his friend and co-worker, Robert Jason Owens, who told a tangled story about that night. Leads emerged involving a love triangle, alleged threats, and Owens’ shifting alibis, but the case stalled for years.

In 2015, Owens was arrested for the brutal murders of Food Network star Cristie Schoen Codd and her husband, reigniting public scrutiny of Zebb’s case. Two decades later, the mystery remains: What happened to Zebb Quinn? To learn more about Zebb Quinn and see pictures and more news articles, click here!
