CIRCUMSTANCES OF DISAPPEARANCE
On the night of September 16, 2009, 24-year-old Mitrice Richardson was arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after being unable to pay her dinner bill at Geoffrey’s Malibu. Friends and family later described her behavior that evening as increasingly erratic, raising concerns about her mental health. Despite those warning signs, Mitrice was released just after midnight from the remote Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station with no phone, no purse, and no transportation.
The next morning, her car was still at the restaurant, her belongings locked inside. Mitrice was last seen on foot in the rugged hills near Calabasas, miles from the station. For months, her disappearance drew outrage, questions of negligence, and a desperate search by her family. Nearly a year later, in August 2010, her remains were discovered in an isolated canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains—leaving behind more questions than answers about what happened the night she vanished.
